Cheongpung Lake Cable Car: Tickets, Crystal Cabin & Jecheon Views

Cheongpung Lake Cable Car is one of the easiest ways to see Jecheon's mountain-and-lake scenery. The cabin travels from Multae-ri beside Cheongpung Lake to Bibongsan, where open viewpoints look across winding water, small peninsulas and layered ridges.

The ride works especially well for families, couples and travelers who want a high viewpoint without a mountain hike. The scenery is the main reason to visit, but choosing the right cabin and checking the day's operating schedule can make the trip much smoother.

Directions to Cheongpung Lake Cable Car

What the cable car ride is like

The 2.3 km route takes roughly ten minutes in each direction. At first, you see the terminal and nearby buildings below. As the cabin climbs, the shape of Cheongpung Lake becomes clearer and the mountain ridges begin to separate into layers.

Each cabin can carry up to ten passengers. You may share with other visitors during busy periods, so a quiet private ride should not be assumed. The service can operate in rain, but strong wind, lightning or other unsafe weather may cause a temporary suspension.

Standard Cabin or Crystal Cabin?

Both cabin types follow the same route and arrive at the same Bibongsan viewpoint. The windows provide the same broad lake panorama. The difference is under your feet: the Crystal Cabin has a transparent floor, while the Standard Cabin has a solid floor.

Choose a Standard Cabin if:
You mainly want the lake view, prefer the lower fare or feel nervous about looking straight down.

Choose a Crystal Cabin if:
The transparent-floor experience is part of the fun and everyone in your group is comfortable with heights.

The Crystal Cabin is not automatically the better scenic option. If the lake panorama is your priority, the Standard Cabin gives you the same destination and window views for less.

Bibongsan Observatory and the best views

Bibongsan rises about 531 m above sea level. From the upper station, the lake appears to weave between steep green ridges, giving parts of the landscape an island-like appearance. Walk beyond the first viewing point: different sides of the summit reveal different bends in the shoreline.

Clear mornings often provide the best long-distance visibility. Midday can bring stronger lake color, while late afternoon produces softer light and more depth between the ridges. If you visit near closing time, confirm the final return boarding time before moving away from the station.

Current ticket prices

The official fare page lists all cable-car tickets as round-trip tickets. The current general fares are:

Standard Cabin — round trip
Adult: KRW 18,000
Child: KRW 14,000

Crystal Cabin — round trip
Adult: KRW 23,000
Child: KRW 18,000

Age categories, group rates and discounts have separate conditions. Some discounts are available only at the on-site ticket office and cannot be combined. Check the official fare page before relying on a discount, and bring the required identification.

Operating hours and weather closures

There is no reliable year-round fixed timetable. The cable car publishes operating hours, ticket-sale deadlines and closure dates by month. Special evening operation may also appear for selected periods. For an evergreen travel guide, the safest approach is to check the official monthly schedule on the morning of your visit.

Check before leaving

Confirm the day's ticket-sale deadline, final return time and operating status. Strong wind, lightning and other unsafe conditions can pause the service even when the attraction was scheduled to open.

Online booking is available, including on the day when tickets remain. However, the official transport terms state that applicable discounts are handled at the on-site ticket office.

How much time do you need?

Allow around 1.5–2 hours for a relaxed visit. The cable rides themselves take less than 20 minutes in total, but ticketing, boarding, walking around the upper station and taking photographs require more time. On autumn weekends and holidays, queues can extend the visit.

Easy first-time route

1. Arrive at Multae-ri Station and confirm the return deadline.
2. Buy or collect the correct Standard or Crystal ticket.
3. Ride to Bibongsan Station.
4. Walk around the summit viewpoints instead of stopping only at the first deck.
5. Return with enough time before the final cabin.

Parking, public transport and accessibility

Parking is available at the cable-car complex. Weekends and autumn foliage season can be busy, so arriving earlier makes parking and ticketing easier. Follow on-site signs because traffic routes and overflow arrangements may change.

Without a car, travel to Jecheon Station or Jecheon Bus Terminal and continue toward Cheongpung-myeon. Local buses are possible but may be infrequent; check Naver Map or KakaoMap on the travel day. A taxi is simpler for a small group or a tightly planned itinerary.

The attraction offers a much easier route to a mountain viewpoint than hiking. Elevators, accessible restrooms and other visitor facilities are available, but individual boarding assistance can depend on the mobility device and current conditions. Ask staff before boarding if you need specific support.

Best season and nearby attractions

Spring is comfortable and green, while summer offers deep lake and forest colors. Autumn is the most popular season because of the foliage, but it also brings the longest queues. Winter can provide crisp visibility on clear days, although wind may affect operation and the summit feels much colder than the lower station.

Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex is an easy nearby addition for traditional buildings and local history. Oksunbong Suspension Bridge offers another lake perspective, while Jecheon city center works well for a meal before or after the drive. The scenic monorail also reaches the Bibongsan area, but it has separate tickets, schedules and boarding arrangements.

  • Bring a light outer layer because the summit may be cooler and windier.
  • Use sun protection on clear days; some viewing areas are exposed.
  • Choose a Standard Cabin if a child or companion is nervous about heights.
  • Check visibility as well as rain. Haze can limit the distant panorama.
  • Save the official operating notice on your phone before leaving.

Cheongpung Lake Cable Car FAQ

How much is Cheongpung Lake Cable Car?

The current official round-trip fare is KRW 18,000 for an adult Standard Cabin and KRW 23,000 for an adult Crystal Cabin. Child fares are KRW 14,000 and KRW 18,000 respectively.

How long is the cable car ride?

The 2.3 km journey takes approximately 9–10 minutes each way. Plan 1.5–2 hours for the full visit, including the summit viewpoints.

Is the Crystal Cabin worth the extra cost?

It is worthwhile if you specifically want to look through a transparent floor. For the main Cheongpung Lake panorama, the less expensive Standard Cabin provides the same route and summit.

Does the cable car close in bad weather?

It may operate in ordinary rain, but strong wind, lightning and unsafe conditions can interrupt service. Check the official notice on the day.

Is it suitable for families and older visitors?

Yes. It provides mountain views without a demanding climb. Families should choose the cabin type based on everyone's comfort with heights and ask staff about any boarding assistance needed.

Final tip

Do not spend your entire visit inside the cabin or at the first observation deck. Allow time to walk around Bibongsan, and check the return deadline as soon as you arrive at the upper station.
