Nami Island, also called Namiseom Island, is one of the easiest nature escapes to add to a trip from Seoul.
Tree-lined walking paths, riverside scenery, seasonal colors and famous K-drama locations make the island especially popular with first-time visitors to Korea.
This 2026 guide covers the ferry, admission fee, transportation from Seoul, the best time to visit and the main places worth seeing once you arrive.
Nami Island is located in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, but most visitors reach the island through the ferry terminal near Gapyeong.
This can be confusing for first-time visitors because Gapyeong Station and the ferry dock are in Gyeonggi-do, while Nami Island itself is officially part of Chuncheon in Gangwon-do.
Directions to Nami Island from My Location
The regular adult admission price is 19,000 KRW.
The important thing to know is that the regular admission price already includes the round-trip ferry between Gapyeong Wharf and Nami Island.
Discount eligibility depends on age and other conditions, so travelers who qualify should check the current requirements before buying a ticket.
For most visitors, the ferry is the normal way to enter Nami Island. The crossing itself takes only about five minutes.
The standard ferry schedule from Gapyeong Wharf is:
8:00 AM–9:00 AM — approximately every 30 minutes
9:00 AM–6:00 PM — approximately every 10–20 minutes
6:00 PM–9:00 PM — approximately every 30 minutes
The first standard ferry to the island leaves at 8:00 AM and the last normally leaves at 9:00 PM. Seasonal extensions can operate during busy periods such as summer and autumn.
One convenient route is to take the ITX-Cheongchun toward Gapyeong Station.
From Yongsan Station, the trip to Gapyeong takes around one hour. From Cheongnyangni, it is shorter.
The regular Gyeongchun Line is another option. It can take longer than ITX but may be useful depending on where you start in Seoul.
The ferry terminal is about 1.5 km from Gapyeong Station.
You can walk for around 20 minutes or use a local bus or taxi, which normally takes about five minutes.
A daily round-trip shuttle also operates between Seoul and Nami Island, with departure points including Hongdae, Myeongdong and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park.
This can be simpler for travelers who do not want to manage train transfers.
The Metasequoia Lane is one of the most recognizable places on Nami Island.
Tall trees create a long, symmetrical walking path that looks dramatically different in every season.
It is especially photogenic early in the day before the main visitor crowds arrive.
In autumn, the ginkgo trees become one of the island's biggest attractions.
When the leaves turn yellow, the ground and trees can create a bright golden corridor through the island.
Nami Island became internationally famous partly because of the Korean drama Winter Sonata.
Fans can still find drama-related photo spots around the island, but you do not need to know the drama to enjoy the scenery.
The filming connection is only one part of a much larger nature-focused visit.
Nami Island is compact enough to explore on foot, but there are also activities and transportation options inside the island.
Depending on what is operating during your visit, you may find bicycles, small trains and other leisure activities.
If this is your first visit, I recommend walking first rather than immediately paying for another ride. The tree lanes and riverside paths are the main reason to come.
Spring is good for blossoms, mild temperatures and green scenery.
Summer is lush and green but can be hot and humid. Tree shade makes walking more comfortable than in many open tourist attractions.
For many travelers, autumn is the most spectacular season. Yellow ginkgo leaves and colorful trees make this one of the island's busiest periods.
Winter gives Nami Island a completely different atmosphere. Snow-covered paths are especially popular with photographers and K-drama fans.
For the main tree lanes, riverside walking and several photo stops, 3–5 hours is a comfortable amount of time.
If you add lunch, activities and relaxed walking, Nami Island can easily become most of a day.
Travelers coming from Seoul should also include transportation time when planning the day.
Regular admission is 19,000 KRW, and the regular round-trip ferry is included.
A common route is to travel to Gapyeong Station, then take a short taxi or local bus ride to the ferry terminal and board the ferry to Nami Island.
Autumn is famous for colorful foliage, while spring is excellent for blossoms and comfortable weather. Winter is also popular for snow scenery.
The biggest mistake at Nami Island is trying to rush through only the famous photo spots.
Walk away from the busiest entrance area and spend time along the quieter riverside paths. The island feels much more relaxed once you move beyond the first cluster of visitors.
For a first visit from Seoul, I would plan most of the day around Gapyeong and Nami Island rather than squeezing it between several unrelated Seoul attractions.
