Haeundae Beach Busan is one of the most famous beaches in South Korea and one of the easiest places for first-time visitors to experience Busan's seaside atmosphere.
The long sandy beach, high-rise skyline, restaurants, cafés and nearby attractions make Haeundae much more than a place for swimming.
This 2026 guide covers the official swimming season, beach hours, subway access, things to do, nearby places and practical tips before you visit.
Haeundae Beach is located in Haeundae-gu on the eastern side of Busan.
It is surrounded by hotels, restaurants, cafés and modern high-rise buildings, while several coastal attractions are within walking distance.
Directions to Haeundae Beach from My Location
The official 2026 Haeundae Beach swimming season runs from June 26 to September 15.
The official beach operating hours during the season are:
If swimming is your main goal, visit during the official season and stay inside the designated swimming area marked by safety buoys.
Haeundae combines a traditional beach trip with a very urban Busan atmosphere.
One side of the view is open ocean and sand, while the other side is filled with hotels, apartments, restaurants and city lights.
That contrast is one reason Haeundae feels different from quieter beaches around Korea.
Even travelers who do not plan to swim can enjoy a walk along the sand, sit near the water or visit in the evening for the coastal atmosphere.
The easiest Haeundae experience costs nothing: simply walk along the beach.
Instead of staying only near the main entrance from Haeundae Station, walk toward either end of the beach to see different views of the coastline and skyline.
Morning walks are quieter, while late afternoon and evening have a livelier atmosphere.
Haeundae changes dramatically after the strongest daytime sun begins to fade.
The beach becomes cooler, the city lights begin to appear and restaurants and cafés around the neighborhood become busier.
For travelers who are not interested in swimming, late afternoon into evening can be the best time to visit.
You do not need to leave Haeundae when you get hungry.
The streets behind the beach are filled with Korean restaurants, seafood, cafés and casual places for snacks and drinks.
If you want a more local atmosphere, explore beyond the beachfront hotels and walk into the smaller streets around Haeundae.
At one end of Haeundae Beach, you can continue your walk toward the Dongbaekseom coastal area.
This gives you a different view from the wide sandy beach and is a good choice if you want more walking rather than simply sitting on the sand.
Comfortable walking shoes are useful if you plan to combine the beachfront and nearby coastal paths.
Take Busan Metro Line 2 to Haeundae Station.
Use Exit 3 or Exit 5 and walk toward the sea for about five minutes.
The subway is usually the easiest choice for travelers without a car. Expect the journey to take longer than a short central-city ride because Haeundae is on the eastern side of Busan.
A taxi can be useful if you are traveling with several people, carrying luggage or returning late in the evening.
Busan operates specific safety and behavior rules at Haeundae Beach.
If you bring a pet, keep it on a leash and clean up after it.
These rules are especially important during the busy summer swimming season.
Choose this period if swimming and full summer beach facilities are your priorities.
These seasons are excellent for walking, cafés and coastal sightseeing without peak summer heat.
Swimming is not the reason to visit, but the beach can be much quieter and is still suitable for a coastal walk.
If you only want to see the beach and walk along the waterfront, around 1–2 hours can be enough.
For swimming, food and a nearby walk, allow around 3–5 hours.
If you plan to explore more of the Haeundae area, it can easily become a half-day or full-day Busan itinerary.
Yes. There is no general admission fee to visit Haeundae Beach.
The official 2026 beach season runs from June 26 to September 15, with official operating hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Use Haeundae Station on Busan Metro Line 2. Exit 3 or 5 is convenient, followed by about a five-minute walk.
Do not think of Haeundae as a place you should visit only in summer.
Swimming is seasonal, but the coastline, walking routes, food and city atmosphere make the area worth visiting throughout the year.
For a first visit, I would arrive in the afternoon, walk the full beach, explore nearby streets for food and stay until the light begins to change.
