If endless green hills, quiet forest paths, fresh tea, and some of the most photogenic countryside scenery in Korea sound appealing, Boseong Green Tea Fields should be on your list.
Located in Jeollanam-do, Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation is the best-known tea plantation in Boseong and one of Korea's classic green-tea landscapes.
The experience is not just about looking at tea bushes.
You walk through a tall cedar forest, climb between carefully shaped rows of tea plants, pass a bamboo forest, and continue toward viewpoints where you may even see the sea on a clear day.
VISITKOREA currently lists Daehan Dawon admission at ₩4,000 for individual adults and ₩3,000 for children and senior citizens. It is listed as open year-round, with seasonal operating hours.
The most famous Boseong Green Tea Fields are at Daehan Dawon in Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, in southwestern Korea.
The plantation sits in a hilly landscape surrounded by forest, which is one reason the scenery feels very different from Korea's major cities.
This is the current address listed by VISITKOREA for Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation.
Boseong is much farther from Seoul than destinations such as Suwon or Gwangmyeong, so this is better treated as a proper regional trip rather than a quick Seoul suburb excursion.
First travel to the Boseong town area by intercity transportation.
From Boseong, continue toward Daehan Dawon by local bus or taxi.
The official Daehan Dawon directions page confirms that a local bus stop serving Boseong Terminal is located near the plantation entrance.
Your first memorable scene may come before you even reach the main tea fields.
The entrance area is lined with tall cedar trees, creating a straight forest road that feels cool, quiet, and very different from the open plantation ahead.
VISITKOREA specifically highlights the cedar forest as one of the plantation's distinctive features.
This is the landscape most travelers imagine when they hear Boseong Green Tea Fields.
Rows of trimmed tea bushes follow the natural curves of the hills, producing wave-like green patterns across the slopes.
Instead of viewing the plantation from only one platform, walk between the rows and slowly climb higher.
The perspective changes constantly.
From below, the tea bushes seem to fill the entire hillside. From higher sections, you can see the plantation's patterns, surrounding forest, mountains, and distant countryside.
Yes — under good conditions.
Daehan Dawon rises toward a small peak of roughly 350 meters above sea level, and VISITKOREA notes that the observation area can offer a view toward the sea on clear days.
This is one reason climbing higher is worth the effort.
The combination of tea plantations, forested hills, and a distant horizon gives Boseong a landscape you rarely see elsewhere in Korea.
Another part of the standard Daehan Dawon route is a bamboo forest.
VISITKOREA lists the cedar forest, bamboo forest, and green tea field vista as part of the plantation tour experience.
This section provides a useful break from the wide open tea slopes and gives the walking route more variety.
It also means the plantation feels more like a complete nature walk than simply a large agricultural field.
After climbing through the plantation, this is the reward many visitors are waiting for.
Boseong is strongly associated with Korean green tea, and tea drinks, snacks, and green-tea-flavored desserts are easy to find around the plantation and nearby tourist area.
Green tea ice cream is an especially easy choice on a warm spring or summer day.
Its slightly bitter tea flavor balances the sweetness better than many ordinary soft-serve desserts.
For the plantation itself, plan around 1–2 hours.
An older Daehan Dawon visitor guide also describes roughly one to two hours as a comfortable amount of time to walk around the plantation.
If you enjoy photography or want to stop for tea afterward, allow closer to two hours or slightly longer.
Spring brings fresh growth and comfortable walking weather.
It is one of the most popular seasons for travelers who want bright green scenery without the strongest summer heat.
This is my strongest recommendation if your main goal is the classic vivid-green Boseong landscape.
The tea fields are lush, full, and highly photogenic.
The plantation can look spectacularly green, but Korea's summer heat and humidity can make the uphill sections feel much harder.
Visit earlier in the morning if possible.
The tea fields remain attractive while surrounding trees begin introducing warmer seasonal colors.
Winter is quieter and has a completely different atmosphere, but remember that current operating hours are shorter from November through February.
Daehan Dawon is not a difficult mountain hike, but it does involve slopes, steps, and extended walking.
Comfortable shoes are much more useful than fashionable shoes here.
Light rain can make the tea fields look incredibly green and atmospheric.
But this is still primarily an outdoor attraction.
Heavy rain makes the sloped paths less comfortable and can hide distant views.
For photography, a cloudy day can actually work well because the soft light reduces harsh shadows across the tea terraces.
The Tea Museum of Korea and Korean Tea Culture Park are located nearby, making them useful additions if you want more than landscape photography.
The Tea Museum explains tea production, tea history, traditional tea ware, and tea culture through several exhibition floors.
This combination works particularly well on a day when you want both outdoor scenery and indoor cultural content.
Do not visit Boseong Green Tea Fields just to take one picture and leave.
The experience gets better when you walk slowly.
Start beneath the tall cedar trees, climb between the tea rows, look back over the patterned hillsides, continue toward the higher viewpoints, and finish with something made from Boseong green tea.
If you can choose your timing, arrive earlier in the day.
The light is softer, the temperature is more comfortable, and the plantation feels calmer before the busiest part of the day.
The tea fields are beautiful in photographs.
But what makes Boseong memorable is the combination of the scenery, forest air, quiet walking paths, and the smell and taste of tea.
Welcome to Boseong — from a local.
